Western Canadian Team Championships

The Western Canadian Team Championship will be held in Vancouver January 9 to 11, 2015. The event is open to U15 and U17 age categories (new for 2015). Interested in playing or coaching? 

As the host province, Badminton BC will select and enter 2 teams – 16 athletes and 4 coaches in total. 

Coaches

The Western Canadian Team Championship Teams require 2 male and 2 female coaches. These individuals will coach the team during the event in January, and at any team training camps prior to the event, as applicable. In order to reach our performance outcome of Gold at the Western Canadian Team Championships, the following qualifications are required of our coaching applicants:

  • NCCP Level 2 Certification or equivalent in the new NCCP program
  • Demonstrated ability coaching and managing athletes participating in the high performance  programs; excellent written and verbal communication; organizational skills
  • Ability to attend any training camps and the 2015 Western Canadian Team Championships in its entirety
  • Member in good standing of Badminton BC and willingness to submit to a criminal records review

Applications are due by November 28, 2014 at 4:30pm PST. Successful applicants will be notified by December 5, 2014. For more information on the coaching positions and to apply, download the WCTC Coaching Staff Opportunity Document. 

Athletes

The Western Canadian Team Championship Teams will be comprised of 2 males and 2 females in each age category (U15 and U17). Instead of holding tryouts, Badminton BC will nominate athletes to join the Team based on their results at identified selection events, including:

  • September 26-28 2014 VLTBC Junior Open
  • October 17-19 2014 HCC Junior Open
  • November 7-9 2014 VRC Remembrance Day Junior Open
  • November 7-9 2014 Yonex Alberta Junior Elite
  • December 5-7 2014 Black Knight Island Junior Open
