This past weekend I attended the 2012 VLTBC Masters Badminton Tournament with the primary focus to meet with Badminton BC Executive Committee Members prior to my parental leave. In addition to the benefit of “face time” with Badminton BC volunteers, attending events away from the office enhances my ability to serve the programs that Badminton BC is sanctioning.

The fourth Junior Ranking event of the 2011-2012 Junior Elite Ranking Tournament Circuit will be the 2012 Hollyburn Junior Open. Hosted by and held at the Hollyburn Country Club in West Vancouver, the event will be taking place this upcoming weekend, February 3-5, 2012.
The 2012 Hollyburn Junior Open Draws are now available for viewing online.

Badminton Canada in conjunction with Badminton New Brunswick will be hosting the 2012 Yonex Canadian Junior & U23 National Championships the week of May 14-19, 2012.
Held at Moncton Coliseum in Moncton, NB, the 2012 Yonex Canadian Junior & U23 National Championships Registration & Tournament Poster are now available.
The entry deadline for the Junior Nationals is Saturday, April 14, 2012.

Sport BC has announced two badminton finalists for 14 of the 17 award categories to be presented at the upcoming Sport BC Athlete of the Year Awards, presented by TELUS on March 8, 2012.
Sport BC’s 46th Annual Athlete of the Year Award Finalists include:

College Athlete of the Year: Li (Melody) Liang (Burnaby, BC) – Badminton, Douglas College, and

Badminton Canada is pleased to announce that the 2012 nominations for Hall of Fame induction of their most valorous members is now open.
Please consider nominating those members of the badminton community that have impacted our sport either as an athlete, coach, team, official or builder.
All applications must be completed by hand and sent to the Badminton Canada office before February 29th, 2012 or by email to badminton@badminton.ca

Hosted by the Brentwood Bay Badminton Club, the 2012 Brentwood Seniors & Masters will be taking place the weekend of February 17-19, 2012. The venues for the event will be the Brentwood Bay and Cordova Bay Community Halls in Victoria. This tournament will be the fourth event in the 2011-2012 Masters Elite Ranking Tournament Circuit.
Registration for the 2012 Brentwood Seniors & Masters Tournament is now available online with further information about the event available in the 2012 Brentwood Seniors & Masters Poster.
The deadline for entries is Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at 11:59pm.

Michael Christian, President of the Kelowna Badminton Club, has notified Badminton BC that the club will be closed for roof repairs until February 27, 2012.

Team BC at the Western Canada Team Championships, January 13, 14, & 15, 2012, Winnipeg Winter Club, Manitoba.
BC was victorious in the U14/U16 combined team event defeating Alberta, in the Gold Medal Match.
Representing BC in the U14's were Jeffrey So, Jack Lin, Kylie Cheng, Jenna Wong, and Samantha Zheng. The U16 team members were Christie Choy, Jasmine Li, James Ho and Calvin Che! The coach was Harry Pan from Ace Badminton Club and the manager was Cindy Simpson.

1. Ranking, Seeding, and Draw Making procedures and practices should be reviewed with appropriate material published for view by Badminton BC members.
