Badminton BC Announces Eleven Nominees for Sport BC Athlete of the Year Awards

Badminton BC has nominated eleven individuals for Sport BC Athlete of the Year Awards. These awards are Canada’s longest-running sport recognition event, annually honouring outstanding British Columbian athletes, coaches, and officials in eighteen different categories. Past recipients of these prestigious awards include Steve Nash, Joe Sakic, and former Badminton BC Executive Director Denise Coutts.

The following individuals were nominated in recognition of their outstanding performance in badminton this year:

Jenna Wong (Surrey) – High School Female Athlete
Jack Lin (Vancouver) – High School Male Athlete
Kylie Cheng (Vancouver) – Junior Female Athlete
James Ho (Surrey) – Junior Male Athlete
Phyllis Chan (Vancouver) – Senior Female Athlete
Toby Ng (Richmond) – Senior Male Athlete
Siew Har Hong (North Vancouver ) – Masters Athlete
Janice Walker (Nanaimo) – Female Coach
Ram Nayyar (Vancouver) – Male Coach
Mike Walker (Nanaimo) – Official
Abdul Shaikh (Vancouver) – Daryl Thompson Award

All nominations are currently in review by the Sport BC Selection Committee, and finalists will be announced in the New Year.

“Badminton BC sends its heartfelt congratulations to these individuals for their accomplishments, and extends best wishes in the selection process,” says Penny Gardner, Executive Director of Badminton BC. “Their performance in badminton this year earned them the respect of our organization, and distinguished them as candidates worthy of recognition by their fellow British Columbians.“
