2010/2011 Sanctioning Guidelines

Overview

The sanctioning requirements serve to outline the minimum that a tournament must adhere to in order to become a sanctioned tournament.

The reasons behind these requirements are:

  • To enable that all sanctioned tournaments provide a consistent standard of service to all tournament participants.
  • To ensure that there is value to all organizations involved in a tournament.
  • Greater transparency to the participants, the clubs and the badminton community.
  • To ensure that all tournament processes are fair and equitable for the participants.

Badminton BC will provide support wherever possible to benefit the organizing committee and participants.  As well, BBC hopes to gain:

  • Greater potential financial reward for the organizing committee.
  • Additional sponsorship in consultation with the Tournament Directors.

4)       Only Badminton BC members will be ranked.

5)       Badminton BC will manage rankings.

Prizes

1)       All senior ranking tournaments are requested to offer a minimum $1000 cash purse. In the future if tournaments are run well by organizers (and there is growth in the Badminton BC Membership) Badminton BC hopes to provide additional cash to help raise the profile of sanctioned tournaments.

2)       Prize money must be distributed as per the percentages detailed in appendix A.

3)       All junior ranking tournaments are requested to offer a prize to winners and runners up for the main round and consolation events.

4)       Non-ranking sanctioned tournaments are requested to offer prizes to winners and runners up (although this is at the discretion of the organizing committee.)

6)       Tournament results must be updated at the end of play each day.

7)       Tournaments must be run solely by the organizing committee unless they request additional support from Badminton BC. (see Financial Management)

8)       Tournaments must have an umpire at all finals unless none are available.

3)       BONUS – collect your tournament fees through Badminton BC and (if you would like) we will complete your seeding and draws for you.
