2013 Western Canadian Team Championships Team Selection Information
2013 Western Canadian Team Championships – Jan. 11-13 2013, Saskatchewan
Team Size
The minimum team size for the Western Canadian Team Championships will be one (1) team of two (2) U14 males, two (2) U14 females, two (2) U16 males, and two (2) U16 females. One (1) Coach and one (1) Manager will be selected by the Badminton BC Performance Committee. The selected Coach and Manager will be of opposite gender.
Team Selection
The minimum team size will be chosen for each of the U14 (born 1999 or later) and U16 (born 1997 or later) categories by adding the points from each athlete’s singles results from their top two (2) of the first three (3) Badminton BC Junior Circuit events of the 2012/13 season. The athlete with higher points will be selected for the team. In the event of a tie athletes participating in Doubles and Mixed Doubles as a partner of another selected team member, and athletes participating in all 3 events will be given preference. The final decision will be approved by the Badminton BC Performance Committee.

One (1) additional athlete in each age group and gender may be selected at the discretion of the Badminton BC Performance Committee.
Selection Events
September 21-23 2012 VLTBC Junior Open
November 9-12 2012 Remembrance Day Tournament
December 7-9 2012 Island Junior Open
*Athletes must attempt to play all three (3) selection events to be eligible.
Athletes who are unable to attend a selection event, however would like to maintain eligibility for consideration, must forward a notice of their inability to attend, description of why they cannot attend, and a signed professional verification making note of the reason for non-attendance to Badminton BC prior to that event taking place.
Cost to the Athlete
There will be a cost of $450 per athlete, for those athletes selected to the team. The entry fee will include return travel from YVR, accommodation in Saskatchewan, a Team BC uniform, an event reception, and event souvenir in addition to the competition.
Appeals
Any appeal of these criteria must be received prior to 4:00pm PST September 14th, 2012 and include a signed endorsement from a coach.
Any appeal of non-selection must be received prior to 4:00pm PST December 17th, 2012 and clearly identify which criteria were met by the athlete and not acknowledged by the Badminton BC Performance Committee.
