BC JUNIOR B SERIES (U13/U15/U17/U19)

The spirit of the BC Junior B Series this series is for players who could potentially be competing for the very first time thus it is important to level the playing field. It is exciting to see the growth in the number of events as well as participants.

To maintain this spirit and utilize the Junior B series to its fullest potential and encourage player development the following general competition regulations have been put into place.

 

1.0 AGE GROUP ELIGIBILITY


2.0 BC JUNIOR RANKINGS     
2.1 Athletes, coaches, and parents are advised to check the most current BC Junior rankings before registering for an event.
2.2 Before each event the most current BC Junior ranking list will be used.
2.3 BC Junior B Series are sanctioned BC ranking points events. It is recognized by Badminton BC as a qualifying event for BC Junior B Provincials. All participating athletes will be awarded Badminton BC ranking points based on their final finish in a main draw.

3.0 CLOTHING OR UNIFORMS
3.1 Players will be held in accordance with Badminton Canada’s Competition Uniform Policy.
3.2 Officials reserve the right to ask competitors to change inappropriate clothing prior to the start of a match.
3.3 Shorts that extend below the knee are deemed inappropriate clothing. Final decision will be made by the Tournament Referee.
3.4 Any club, facility, or venue with rules regarding specific colour of clothing supersedes Badminton BC’s recommendation.


4.0 COACH ACCREDITATION AND ELIGIBILITY (required for Junior A, Junior B and Open Series and their respective Provincial Championships) 
4.1 All the requirements as well as instructions for coaches to apply for Accreditation can be found here.
4.2 Accredited coaches must report to the Referee at the tournament before coaching. The referee will verify their accreditation and allow access to field of play.

 

5.0 CODES OF CONDUCT POLICY AND COMMITMENT TO FAIR PLAY POLICY
These policies adopt and accept all the language contained in the Universal Code of Conduct and shall apply to all organization employees, staff and Board of Directors and athletes, parents, coaches, officials, clubs and their respective Boards, spectators and volunteers. By entering this BC Junior B series events all attendees agree to comply with the Code of Conduct Policy, Commitment to Fair Play Policy and Universal Code of Conduct.

 

6.0 EYEWEAR
6.1 All players actively participating in Badminton activities and BC sanctioned competitions are highly recommended to wear protective eyewear, including goggles worn over top of prescription glasses, always meeting the ASTM F803 standards while they are on court.
6.2 This includes warm-up, competitions, and match play in schools, post-secondary institutions, recreation and community centers, private clubs, not-for-profit clubs, and for-profit clubs.
6.3 Any club, facility, or venue with rules regarding mandatory eyewear supersedes Badminton BC’s recommendation.

 

7.0 MEMBERSHIP ELIGIBILITY

 

8.0 NO SHOW FEES
8.1 Any player who does not show up for a scheduled match time without informing the HOC (at least 1 hour prior to the scheduled match) will be fined $40 dollars.
8.2 This policy is an effort to reinforce the values of courtesy, responsible behaviour, respect, and sportsmanship as set out in the Badminton BC Code of Conduct Policy & Commitment to Fair Play Policy – a no show would be considered an infraction of this shared Code.

 

9.0 PARTICIPATION INELIGIBILITY
9.1 BC Junior B Series #1 Sept 12-14, 2025 - Players are INELIGIBILE to participate in the BC Junior B Series #1 if they are ranked in the Top 16 (Singles) in Badminton BC Rankings for the same age category however can play in an upper age category in BC Junior B Series #1 ONLY.  Example: A player ranked 9th for U15 Singles, is NOT ELIGIBLE to play in the BC Junior B Series#1 U15 events (Singles, Doubles or Mixed Doubles) but could play U17 Junior B events.

9.2 As of September 15, 2025 - Players ranked in the Top 16 Singles positions on Badminton BC’s most up-to-date rankings, as of tournament entry open date, are INELIGIBLE to participate in the BC Junior B Series and BC Junior B Provincials in any age category or discipline. Example: A player ranked 9th for U15 Singles, is NOT ELIGIBLE to play the BC Junior B Series. 

9.3 As of September 30, 2025 (this supercedes 9.2)

9.3.1 U19/U17:
9.3.1.1 Players ranked in the top 16 in singles are not eligible to play B singles.
9.3.1.2 Players ranked in the top 8 in doubles or mixed doubles are not eligible to play doubles or mixed doubles.
9.3.1.3 Players may, however, participate in other events where they are not ranked within the top 16 in singles or the top 8 in doubles/mixed doubles.

9.3.2 U15:
9.3.2.1 Players ranked in the top 8 in singles and top 4 in doubles, or mixed doubles are not eligible to play in B events for those disciplines. 
9.3.2.2 Players may, however, participate in other events where they are not ranked within the top 8 in singles or the top 4 in doubles/mixed doubles.

9.3.3 U13:
9.3.3.1 Players ranked in the top 4 in singles, or top 2 doubles, or mixed doubles are not eligible to play in B events for those disciplines.
 9.3.3.2 Players may, however, participate in events where they are not ranked within the top 4. 

 

10.0 PAYMENT OF ENTRY FEE
10.1 Tournament payment is online using the Tournament Software (TS) link at the same time as entry.
10.2 Entries not completed online will not be accepted.
10.3 Entries without payment will not be accepted.

 

11.0 PHOTOS
11.1 Badminton BC, its representative and successors reserve all rights to reproduce, for the purpose of illustration, fund raising, advertising or publication in any manner, any photographs taken by Badminton BC or affiliated members, clubs, contractors or staff during this event.

 

12.0 PLAYER RESPONSIBILITIES
12.1 Players are recommended to be at the tournament venue at least 30 minutes before their scheduled match
12.2 If players are not on court within 10 minutes of when their match is announcement the match is defaulted and deemed a No Show
12.3 Players have a 3-minute warm up period
12.4 No additional warm up time will be allotted for players arriving late to the court within the 10-minute default
12.5 Players must advise the draw desk within 5 minutes of the end of their first match loss if they do not wish to play consolations

 

13.0 BC JUNIOR B PROVINCIAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
Eligibility into BC Provincial Championships includes fulfilling both Participation and Canadian Citizenship requirements.  Athlete eligibility is reviewed annually. 
13.1 Players ranked in the Top 16 Singles positions on Badminton BC’s most up-to-date rankings, as of tournament entry open date, are INELIGIBLE to participate in the BC Junior B Provincials in any age category or discipline. Example: As of September 15, 2025, a player ranked 9th for U15 Singles, is NOT ELIGIBLE to play in the BC Junior B Provincial Championships.

14.0 REFUNDS
14.1 Refunds are provided to players, less a $15.00+gst administration fee, who withdraw after the entry deadline, but before the Draws are published.
Note:  Players should ensure that they are sure if they are entering the correct event
14.2 Refunds will not be provided for withdrawals after the Draws have been published.
14.3 Full refunds will be provided in the case of injury prior to the start of competition.  A physician’s letter or medical certificate must be provided to Badminton BC to receive a full refund.
14.4 Withdrawal from an event due to a partner medical illness will receive a refund for that event provided they are not reassigned/or request another partner already registered for the tournament
14.5 Full refunds will be provided in the case that the player/pair do not make it into the main draw due to capacity.
14.6 All refunds will be performed after the event has finished - processing will take approximately two weeks

 

15.0 SCHEDULE for the Series

 

16.0 TECHNICAL OFFICIALS (TO)
16.1 Technical Officials (Referees and Umpires) will follow and perform officiating duties as outlined in role and responsibilities provided in the Badminton BC TO Code of Conduct, Badminton Canada Code of Conduct and the BWF website.

 

17.0 TOURNAMENT ENTRY
17.1 Tournament entry is online using the Tournament Software (TS) link
17.2 No manual entries will be accepted
17.3 Changes to an entry are not permitted after the Entry Close Date.
17.4 Entries in doubles and mixed doubles, both players must be entered within the same entry deadline, or they will be partnered with another player if available.
17.5 PLAYER ENTRY LIMITS MAY VARY if they are required.  Refer to the tournament regulation for each event for specifics.

 

18.0 TOURNAMENT ENTRY FAQ
18.1 If Player X is registered but not their partner, can Partner X request to have their partner entered after entry close? - NO (Both doubles and mixed doubles players must be entered within the same entry deadline, or they will be partnered with another player if available)
18.2 If Player X is registered into 1 event only, and requesting to add another event after entry close, is the allowed? - NO (Changes to an entry are not permitted after the Entry Close Date)
18.3 If Player X is registered but did not pay will they remain in the competition? - NO (Entries not completed online or a will not be accepted. Entries without payment will not be accepted.)
18.4 If Player X did not register at all, can they request to register after entry close? - NO (No late entries after the deadlines).
18.5 If Player X registered and paid but did not reflect on TP file, will Player X remain in the competition? - YES (Badminton BC will investigate and if paid before the deadline make a manual addition)
18.6 What happens when Player X requests a partner for doubles or mixed doubles? – Badminton BC will pair up a partner if available. 

 

19.0 TOURNAMENT ENTRY NUMBERS
19.1 Each Host Venue, based on their court capacity, will consult with the Event Manager if any restrictions on the number of entries is required.
19.2 In the event a PLAYER ENTRY LIMIT is put in place it MAY VARY from event to event/venue to venue based on the number courts available or provided.
19.3 Badminton BC refers to Badminton Canada's General Competitions Regulations as a resource to assist with these decisions.

 

20.0 TOURNAMENT FORMAT  
2025 BC Junior B Series#1
U13-U19 Singles will be Elimination and Consolation best 2 out of 3 games to 21
U13-U19 Doubles will be Elimination and Consolation best 2 out of 3 games to 21
U13-U19 Mixed Doubles will be Elimination and Consolation best 2 out of 3 games to 21

The DEFAULT for the remainder of the 2025-2026 BC Junior B Series season will be:

20.1 U13-U19 Singles will be Elimination and Consolation* best 2 out of 3 games to 21
20.2 U13-U19 Doubles will be Elimination and Consolation* best 2 out of 3 games to 21
20.3 U13-U19 Mixed Doubles will be Elimination and Consolation* best 2 out of 3 games to 21
20.4 Badminton BC refers to Badminton Canada's General Competitions Regulations as a resource to assist with those decisions.

* PLAYERS MUST REGISTER FOR CONSOLATIONS FOLLOWING THEIR FIRST LOSS OTHERWISE PLAYERS WILL NOT BE INCLUDED IN THE CONSOLATIONS DRAW

 

21.0 WILD CARD BERTH TO BC JUNIOR A SERIES
21.1 BC Junior B Series main draws finalists will be given a berth to the next Junior A Series event in the same discipline ONLY regardless of their Badminton BC rankings. 
21.2 The berths will be considered additional players to the Top 16. 
21.3 This excludes BC Junior A Provincials.
