Age Group and Membership Eligibility

The following eligibility criteria were created in consultation with the Badminton BC Competitions Committee and the Badminton BC Performance Committee. The intent of the criteria is to:

  • Align with a National interest to qualify entries into National Championships.
  • Encourage participation in Provincial Circuit events to strengthen the competitive development pathways for all athletes in British Columbia.

Note: for eligibilities specifid to a category of tournaments, like BC Junior B series, please refer to the respective BC series tournament pages. 

 

Age groups eligibility for 2023-2024 season: 

U19/U17/U15/U13/U11:

• U19 (born in 2006 or later)-Players are eligible to compete in this age category provided they remain under 19 years of age throughout the 2024 calendar year in which the National Championships are held.

• U17 (born in 2008 or later)-Players are eligible to compete in this age category provided they remain under 17 years of age throughout the 2024 calendar year in which the National Championships are held.

• U15 (born in 2010 or later)-Players are eligible to compete in this age category provided they remain under 15 years of age throughout the 2024 calendar year in which the National Championships are held.

• U13 (born in 2012 or later)-Players are eligible to compete in this age category provided they remain under 13 years of age throughout the 2024 calendar year in which the Provincial Championships are held.

• U11 (born in 2014 or later)- Players are eligible to compete in this age category provided they remain under 11 years of age throughout the 2024 calendar year in which the Provincial Championships are held.

 

U23:

• U23 Badminton BC will follow Badminton Canada's rules due to the fact Canada Winter Games (year 2000 atheltes) is held in February 2023.

Masters:

Players are eligibile to compete in this age category if they are 30 and over as of the first day of the tournament.
