We are currently working very hard with the BC government to ensure that we are taking the appropriate course of action to safely restart badminton play in our community.
ViaSport has been tasked by Minister Beare and the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture to coordinate the sport sector's return to play and to assist us in developing a proposal that adheres to public health guidelines specific to our sport. Once reviewed, ViaSport will submit these proposals for approval by the Office of the Provincial Health Officer. The process will ensure that our community is coordinated in its efforts to prioritize the health and safety of our athletes, staff and community.

Badminton BC is pleased to announce that we have submitted the following nominations to Sport BC for the Athlete of Year Awards to be held Thursday, March 12, 2020 at the Vancouver Convention Centre East.. Best of luck to Kristen Tsai,nominated for Senior Female Athlete of the Year and Wendy Zhang, nominated for Junior Female Athlete of the Year. Sport BC Awards panel is reviewing nominations and three (3) finalists will be announced in Februrary 2020!
The Athlete of the Year Awards, founded by Sport BC, is the longest standing sport recognition event in Canada. Awards in 18 different categories are presented each year to athletes, coaches, officials and volunteers for their performance and contribution to sport in our province. The awards play a valuable role in nurturing athletic success and recognizing some of BC’s growing talent.
We are proud to celebrate the athletes, dedicated coaches, devoted officials and amazing volunteers from all of our member Provincial Sport Organizations and sport sector partners in British Columbia. For over 50 years, Sport BC has recognized legendary sport heroes and emerging stars.
The 2020 Yonex National Championships will feature both badminton and para-badminton side by side for the first time in Badminton Canada history. Athletes from throughout the country will be competing over 4 days at Prairie Badminton in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Previous National Champions from all events are anticipated to be present, including: Yonex National Team members such as Brian Yang (MS), Michelle Li (WS), Jason Ho-Shue & Nyl Yakura (MD), Rachel Honderich & Kristen Tsai (WD), Joshua Hurlburt-Yu & Josephine Wu (XD) - all of whom will look to defend their National Championship titles. These talented athletes will be joined by Yonex Para-Badminton National Team members such as Pascal Lapointe (SL4), Yuka Chokyu (WH2), William Roussy (SL3), Wyatt Lightfoot (SS6), Bernard Lapointe & Richard Peter (WH1/WH2), and Winnipeg local Olivia Meier (SU5)!
