Membership Structure

Effective June 1, 2026, the new 2026-27 membership season officially begins and all fee adjustments take effect. Our membership season runs from June 1st to May 31st. The following structure combines the Badminton BC Base Fee with the updated Badminton Canada (BCAN) mandatory license rates to provide a transparent, all-in cost for members.

(Note: Badminton BC base fees remain unchanged; increases are based on BCAN's updated structure).

Membership Category Description of Particpation
Recreational

Applies to an individual in one or more of the following areas: 

  • Participates in consecutive or weekly organized or drop-in programs, practice, or lessons; youth or adult.
  • Does not necessarily compete in tournaments.
  • A new player taking part in "Shuttle Time" lessons or school programs.
  • Access to Junior C series (Introduction) events.
  • Allowed to participate in non-ranking multi-sport games like BC Winter Games and BC 55+ Games.
Regional - NEW TIER

This new tier bridges the gap for players looking for competition without the full provincial commitment. Applies to an individual looking for:

 

  • Includes all the benefits of the Recreational Membership, as well as:
  • Access to Regional-Level Play: Allows individuals to compete at a silver, B, regional, or Tier 2 level within the province.
  • Broad Age Category Access: The regional designation applies to masters, adult, and youth players.
  • Junior B Series Access: This tier now acts as the recommended entry point for youth players wanting to participate in the Junior B series
Provincial

Applies to an individual in one or more of the following areas: 

  • Includes all the benefits of the previous Membership, as well as:
  • BC players who want to access All Badminton BC sanctioned events or circuit events.
  • Puts players on the pathway to Provincial A Championships, which includes Masters, Junior A, U23, and Senior/Open categories.
  • Allows players to compete in Provincial Championships and participate in both the provincial and national ranking systems.
National

Addplies to an individual in one or more of the following areas: 

  • Includes access to any Badminton BC sanctioned events and Provincial A circuit series events, as well as Badminton Canada Elite series events
  • Allows participation in the provincial and national ranking systems and the pathway to Provincial A Championships.
  • Grants access to Badminton Canada National Championships for Masters, Juniors, U23, and Senior levels.
  • Allows players to play in tournaments created by Badminton Canada, provides access to national multi-sport games (such as the Canada Winter Games), and allows the player to compete in any other province that explicitly restricts entry to their tournaments.
Official

Applies to an individual in one or more of the following areas: 

  • Officials
  • Umpires
Coach

Applies to an individual in one or more of the following areas: 

  • coaches
  • accredited coaches
One Time Event Category Description of Participation
Single Event

Applies to an individual in one or more of the following areas: 

  • BC players who wish to particate and support one event in their region, even if it is a A circuit event, without committing to the pathway to play in a Provincial Championship
  • BC players who want to participate in one event only that may not be in their region
  • Out of province or out of country players who are not currently members of Badminton BC but wish to play in a Local, Regional (Masters) or Circuit A event ona one-time basis
  • BC players to play one sanctioned event designated as either Local, Regional or Provincial A

Note:

  • NEW UPGRADE RULE: Players are now allowed to apply their $45 Single Event fee toward a $90 Provincial membership if they decide to play again. Instead of paying for multiple single-event passes, you can easily upgrade to a full annual Provincial membership to continue playing.

The Badminton BC membership year is June 1  - May 31 annually. Badminton Canada player licences can also be purchased for the next season beginning at this time.

 

Please Note: For any refund requests not caused by a Badminton BC error (such as accidental duplicate purchases, incorrect membership selection, etc.), a $5.00 administrative fee will be deducted from the refund total.
