A volunteer Board of Directors governs Badminton BC.  They meet 6 times per year, including the Annual General Meeting.  The Board of Directors performs the financial management, planning and decision-making for the Association through oversight of the various standing committees.

Henry Wong

BIO

Henry Wong has been the President of the Board of Badminton BC since October 2017 and is in mid-term of his current term of service. Henry is an active badminton player, NCCP certified coach and Badminton BC accredited umpire. He is also the past President of the Westlu Badminton Club - a not-for-profit BC registered society based in Richmond. Henry also served in the organizing committee of the 2016 Americas Masters Games and the 2018 Canadian National Masters Championships.

Rodney Scollard

BIO

Rodney currently practices law in the public sector after several years as a civil litigator, and has vast experience dealing with policy and regulatory matters. In his spare time, he enjoys a multitude of sports and outdoor pursuits, having played competitive sport, including semi-professional and varsity soccer, when he was younger. Amongst his many active hobbies is playing recreational badminton on a regular basis at local clubs.

Hellena Park

BIO

Hellena was appointed as a Director in May of 2020. Hellena has been involved in badminton since the age of 13. She started off as a competitive junior player in Alberta and has remained an active competitive recreational player. The sport has for the most part, played a significant role in her life and this is no more evident than now. Currently, Hellena has a son who also competes and trains in the sport. As a result, her involvement in the sport has expanded. In 2016, she and other badminton parents formed a badminton parents committee with Hellena being the president. The primary purpose of this committee was to raise funds for the young players to offset the costly badminton expense. She remained as president until 2018. Since then, she moved to Vancouver and has continued to be active as both a player and supporter

Gwennie Siu

Gwennie Siu is a Chartered Professional Accountant since 2011 and is in mid-term of her current term of service. She is a Senior Manager in a reputable accounting firm in the city, and has over 10 years of experience in auditing, accounting and taxation. In her free time, she enjoys spending quality time with her friends and family and playing piano. She also enjoys playing sports leisurely.

Alex Lam

BIO

Alex has a diploma in Telecommunications, and worked for a high volume electronics manufacturing company for 20 years.  Currently he is the Owner of Maje Enterprises - dealing with commercial property leasing.  In his leisure time he enjoys playing badminton, tennis, swimming, cooking and spending time with his family.

 

 

Gurpal Bisra

BIO

Gurpal was appointed as a Director in August of 2021. He currently works as a data scientist in the public sector and cofounded a healthcare data analytics company. He excels at using his diverse skill sets, including bioengineering and operations research, to help people and make optimized use of resources. Gurpal became passionate about badminton while playing backyard badminton with his dad during his childhood. After joining his high school team, he then played at various drop-in sessions throughout Europe, at the Absolutely Badminton Club as a member of the LGBT+ community, and presently plays at the Vancouver Racquets Club. Apart from building robots and doing Kaggle competitions, he enjoys gardening, painting, and biking in his spare time

 

 

 

Duong Hoac

BIO

Duong is a professional software engineer since early 2000.  He started his career in making video game and moved towards business enterprise software.  His expertise in technology includes big-data databases, artificial intelligence, networking security, full stack development, large data analytics, and general enterprise business software.  

In addition, he is also a part time instructor teaching all kinds of subject such as math, artificial intelligence, computer graphics, and general video game development course.  

In his sparer time, he enjoys playing badminton, extreme outdoor sports, night photography, and wood working.  

 

 

Alex Wong

BIO

Alex Wong is a Chartered Professional Accountant and a Chartered Business Valuator.  As a junior athlete, Alex represented Team BC in various badminton tournaments, winning various Provincial titles, Western Canadian Summer Games and was a medalist at the Canadian Junior Nationals.  Currently, he is a Senior Manager in the Valuation & amp; Modelling and Economics team at a global accounting firm.  In his spare time, Alex remains an active badminton player.
