2025-2026 Board of Directors   Roles and Responsibilities

A volunteer Board of Directors governs Badminton BC.  They meet a minimum of 6 times per year, including the Annual General Meeting.  The Board of Directors performs the financial management, planning and decision-making for the Association through oversight of the various standing and operational committees.

 

President Andy Zhu (West Vancouver) - re-elected September 5, 2025

Andy was elected to the Badminton BC Board of Directors at the 2024 Annual General Meeting, bringing with him extensive experience in business, finance, technology, and board governance. A lifelong badminton enthusiast, Andy has been playing the sport for over 40 years and is passionate about promoting its growth and accessibility across the province.

His commitment to badminton began at the grassroots level and continues through his active volunteerism. Andy has served on the board of the Lower Mainland Badminton Association (LMBA) and other community organizations, offering strategic leadership and governance expertise. As President, he is dedicated to advancing Badminton BC’s mission and supporting a vibrant, inclusive badminton community in British Columbia.

 

Vice President Michael Diao (West Vancouver) - elected September 5, 2025

Michael is currently the CEO of Elemental Lifestyle Retirement Inc. and has held several senior positions in various organizations. His passion for community service, leadership skills, strategic vision and his drive and energy are great additions to the Board of Badminton BC.

 

Treasurer Samuel Watson (Vancouver) - elected September 5, 2025

Originally from Vancouver, Sam played competitive badminton growing up and is still an active player within the community. Sam specializes in financial reporting and corporate transactions, bringing over ten years of experience. Prior to volunteering with Badminton BC, Sam volunteered with Big Brothers of Vancouver and the Young Professionals Committee of the Lions Gate Hospital.

 

Secretary Lisa Davison (Prince George) - elected September 5, 2025

Returning to the Board after a nine-year absence, Lisa has extensive experience with Badminton BC in multiple roles, including coach, athlete, former President, and various administrative positions. Her role as Secretary and leadership will help strengthen Board governance, policies and communication with members. 

 

Director-At-Large Duy Nguyen (Surrey) - elected September 5, 2025

Originally from Penticton, Duy has been involved in badminton since  high school. With a background in law firm management and immigration laws, he  specializes in legal matters. He also coaches high school badminton, basketball and  wrestling. He is passionate about the growth of badminton in BC and strives to build a proud and thriving community. 

 

Director-At-Large Denise Jefferys (Vancouver) - elected September 5, 2025

Denise has recently retired from a 35-year career in Commercial Real Estate as an Accounts Payable Administrator where she was respected for her strong work ethic, attention to detail, and excellent communication skills. A lifelong badminton player and competitive masters athlete, Denise is known as a team player who brings maturity, accountability, and positivity to everything she does.  

 

Director-At-Large Tushar Biware (Richmond) - elected September 5, 2025

Tushar heads the Business for Trane Technologies in Western Canada and brings with him years of experience in Strategic Planning, Business Acumen and Leadership. His ability to drive results and manage effective and successful teams combined with an MBA in International Business is an asset for the Society. 

 

Director-At-Large Abbas Mohamed Hussein (Delta) - elected September 5, 2025

Abbas is currently a Business Owner of a Logistics and Transportation company. He is also a Licensed Professional Electrical Engineer and holds an MBA from California State University. He has volunteered on the board for Az Zahraa Islamic Centre in various capacities including multi-sports activities.
