BC JUNIOR B SERIES (U11/U13/U15/U17/U19)
(Development Series)
The BC Junior C (Development) Series is designed primarily for entry-level juniors, including first-year players, and provides a supportive, non-ranking competition environment that encourages skill development, positive competition, and player progress tracking. As many participants may be competing for the first time, the series aims to maintain a fair and level playing field while fostering confidence and growth. With the continued increase in both events and participation, the following competition regulations have been established to preserve the spirit and developmental purpose of the series.
1. BC JUNIOR RANKINGS
1.1 Athletes, coaches, and parents are advised to check the most current BC Junior rankings before registering for an event.
1.2. Before each event the most current BC Junior ranking list will be used.
1.3. BC Junior C Series are sanctioned BC non-ranking points events. It is recognized by Badminton BC as a qualifying event for
BC Junior A Provincials. All participating athletes will be awarded Badminton BC ranking points based on their final finish in
a main draw.

2. Eligibility
2.1. Age Group Eligibility

2.3. Series Eligibility – On A ‘First-Come, First-Served’ Basis
Using Badminton BC’s Ranking Points the following players will qualify to participate in a Junior B Series event and
respective Provincial Championships:
2.3.1. U19/U17
- Top 32 in Singles are not eligible to compete in Junior C Singles.
- Top 16 in Boys' Doubles and Girls' Doubles are not eligible to compete in Junior C Doubles.
- Top 16 in Mixed Doubles are not eligible to compete in Junior C Mixed Doubles.
- Players may, however, participate in other events in which they are not ranked within the Top 32 in Singles or the Top 16 in Doubles or Mixed Doubles.
2.3.2. U15
- Top 16 in Singles are not eligible to compete in Junior C Singles.
- Top 8 in Boys' Doubles and Girls' Doubles are not eligible to compete in Junior C Doubles.
- Top 8 in Mixed Doubles are not eligible to compete in Junior C Mixed Doubles.
- Players may, however, participate in other events in which they are not ranked within the Top 16 in Singles or the Top 8 in Doubles or Mixed Doubles.
2.3.3. U13
- Top 8 in Singles are not eligible to compete in Junior C Singles.
- Top 4 in Boys' Doubles and Girls' Doubles are not eligible to compete in Junior C Doubles.
- Top 4 in Mixed Doubles are not eligible to compete in Junior C Mixed Doubles.
- Players may, however, participate in other events in which they are not ranked within the Top 8 in Singles or the Top 4 in Doubles or Mixed Doubles.
This criterion ensures that Junior C remains a development-focused category and supports fair competition among beginner-level players
3. Tournament Entry Numbers
3.1. Each Host Venue, based on their court capacity, will consult with the Event Manager if any restrictions on the number of
entries is required.
3.2. In the event a PLAYER ENTRY LIMIT is put in place it MAY VARY from event to event/venue to venue based on the number
courts available or provided.
3.3. Badminton BC refers to Badminton Canada's General Competitions Regulations as a resource to assist with these decisions.
4. Tournament Format
4.1. U11-U19 Singles will be Elimination and Consolation* best 2 out of 3 games to 15
4.2. U11-U19 Doubles will be Elimination and Consolation* best 2 out of 3 games to 15
4.3. U13-U19 Mixed Doubles will be Elimination and Consolation* best 2 out of 3 games to 15

5. Seeding
5.1. Ranking And Seeding Explanation
5.2. The number of seeded entries will depend on the overall number of entries in the specific event. The number of seeds will
be:
- 16 seeds with 48 or more entries;
- 8 seeds if there are 24 to 47 entries;
- 4 seeds if there are 8 to 23 entries;
- 2 seeds if there are less than 8 entries.
6. Tournament Entry
6.1. Tournament entry is online using the Tournament Software (TS) link
6.2. No manual entries will be accepted
6.3. Changes to an entry are not permitted after the Entry Close Date.
6.4. Entries in doubles and mixed doubles, both players must be entered within the same entry deadline, or they will be
partnered with another player if available.
6.5. PLAYER ENTRY LIMITS MAY VARY if they are required. Refer to the tournament regulation for each event for specifics.
7. Entry Fees
7.1. Entry fees are determined and approved by Badminton BC.
7.2. Entry fees for Junior A Series events shall be a flat rate of $130 per player, regardless of the number of events entered.
8. Payment of Entry Fee
8.1. Tournament payment is online using the Tournament Software (TS) link at the same time as entry.
8.2. Entries not completed online will not be accepted.
8.3. Entries without payment will not be accepted.
9. Refunds
9.1. Refunds are provided to players, less a $15.00+gst administration fee, who withdraw after the entry deadline, but before
the Draws are published.
Note: Players should ensure that they are sure if they are entering the correct event
9.2. Refunds will not be provided for withdrawals after the Draws have been published.
9.3. Full refunds will be provided in the case of injury prior to the start of competition. A physician’s letter or medical certificate
must be provided to Badminton BC to receive a full refund.
9.4. Withdrawal from an event due to a partner medical illness will receive a refund for that event provided they are not
reassigned/or request another partner already registered for the tournament
9.5. Full refunds will be provided in the case that the player/pair do not make it into the main draw due to capacity.
9.6. All refunds will be performed after the event has finished - processing will take approximately two weeks
10. No Show Fees
10.1. Any player who does not show up for a scheduled match time without informing the HOC (at least 1 hour prior to the
scheduled match) will be fined $40 dollars.
10.2. This policy is an effort to reinforce the values of courtesy, responsible behaviour, respect, and sportsmanship as set out in
the Badminton BC Code of Conduct Policy & Commitment to Fair Play Policy – a no show would be considered an infraction
of this shared Code.
11. Official Shuttle
11.1. The official shuttle for the Series is TBA.
13. Player Responsibilties
13.1. Players are recommended to be at the tournament venue at least 30 minutes before their scheduled match
13.2. If players are not on court within 10 minutes of when their match is announcement the match is defaulted and deemed a
No Show
13.3. Players have a 3-minute warm up period
13.4. No additional warm up time will be allotted for players arriving late to the court within the 10-minute default
13.5. Players must advise the draw desk within 5 minutes of the end of their first match loss if they do not wish to play
consolations
14. Coach Accreditation and Eligibility
(required for Junior A, Junior B, Junior C and Open Series and their respective Provincial Championships)
14.1. All the requirements as well as instructions for coaches to apply for Accreditation can be found here.
14.2. Accredited coaches must report to the Referee at the tournament before coaching. The referee will verify their
accreditation and allow access to the field of play.
15. Technical Officials (TO)
15.1. Technical Officials (Referees and Umpires) will follow and perform officiating duties as outlined in role and responsibilities
provided in the Badminton BC TO Code of Conduct, Badminton Canada Code of Conduct and the BWF website.
15.2 All matches must be monitored by a scorekeeper if an umpire is not available. Scorekeeping and timing devices must be
provided by the Host. Scorecards can be printed directly from Tournament Software.
- At the end of a match the non-winner of the match is required to stay on-court to score keep and time the upcoming match on the same court.
- Scheduling of the tournament will be adjusted to provide additional rest time between matches to accommodate the additional commitment of the players.
- In the case of doubles, the decision to whom will stay behind to score keep will be decided by Rock-Paper-Scissors between the non-winning pair.
- Any player unwilling or unable to cooperate is responsible for finding a replacement.
These policies adopt and accept all the language contained in the Universal Code of Conduct and shall apply to all organization employees, staff and Board of Directors and athletes, parents, coaches, officials, clubs and their respective Boards, spectators and volunteers. By entering this BC Junior A series events all attendees agree to comply with the Code of Conduct Policy, Commitment to Fair Play Policy and Universal Code of Conduct.
17. Field of Play Discipline Policy
17.1. Participants are encouraged to review the Badminton BC Code of Conduct and Ethical Conduct Policy in advance of the
tournament.
17.2. Cards will be given in accordance with the Rules of Badminton. Monetary Penalties will be applied for all Badminton BC
sanctioned tournaments.
17.2.1. Yellow Card - $50 for third yellow card issued during the calendar year
- $50 for each subsequent yellow card issued during the calendar year
17.2.2. Red Card - $100 for each red card issued during the calendar year
17.2.3. Black Card - As per the penalty determined by Badminton BC’s Code of Conduct Policy
17.3 The Umpire, or the Referee in the absence of an Umpire, may issue misconduct penalties, including Yellow and Red Cards.
Alignment Note
This adapts core principles from Badminton Canada's General Competition Regulations and Safe Sport policies, tailored for
provincial events. It cross-references Badminton BC's existing Codes of Conduct and Dispute Resolution Policy.
18. Appeals
18.1. On-court decisions by officials are final and not subject to appeal.
18.2. Appeals regarding monetary penalties will be considered only in exceptional circumstances and must be submitted in
writing to the Referee or Tournament Director for review.
19. Clothing or Uniforms
19.1. Players will be held in accordance with Badminton Canada’s Competition Uniform Policy.
19.2. Officials reserve the right to ask competitors to change inappropriate clothing prior to the start of a match.
19.3. Shorts that extend below the knee are deemed inappropriate clothing. Final decision will be made by the Tournament
Referee.
19.4. Any club, facility, or venue with rules regarding specific colour of clothing supersedes Badminton BC’s recommendation.
20. Eyewear
20.1. All players actively participating in Badminton activities and BC sanctioned competitions are highly recommended to wear
protective eyewear, including goggles worn over top of prescription glasses, always meeting the ASTM F803 standards while
they are on court.
20.2. This includes warm-up, competitions, and match play in schools, post-secondary institutions, recreation and community
centers, private clubs, not-for-profit clubs, and for-profit clubs.
20.3. Any club, facility, or venue with rules regarding mandatory eyewear supersedes Badminton BC’s recommendation.
21. Photos
21.1. Badminton BC, its representative and successors reserve all rights to reproduce, for the purpose of illustration, fund raising,
advertising or publication in any manner, any photographs taken by Badminton BC or affiliated members, clubs, contractors
or staff during this event.

23. Tournament Entry FAQ
23.1. If Player X is registered but not their partner, can Partner X request to have their partner entered after entry close? - NO
(Both doubles and mixed doubles players must be entered within the same entry deadline, or they will be partnered with
another player if available)
23.2. If Player X is registered into 1 event only, and requesting to add another event after entry close, is this allowed? - NO
(Changes to an entry are not permitted after the Entry Close Date)
23.3. If Player X is registered but did not pay will they remain in the competition? - NO (Entries not completed online or a will
not be accepted. Entries without payment will not be accepted.)
23.4. If Player X did not register at all, can they request to register after entry closes? - NO (No late entries after the deadlines).
23.5. If Player X registered and paid but did not reflect on the TP file, will Player X remain in the competition? - YES (Badminton
BC will investigate and if paid before the deadline make a manual addition)
23.6. What happens when Player X requests a partner for doubles or mixed doubles? – Badminton BC will pair up a partner if
available.

In cases where a matter is not provided for in these regulations, the Badminton Canada General Competition Regulations shall apply.
