PROOF OF RESIDENCE
Each athlete, head coach, assistant coach, and adult supervisor shall compete only for
the zone in which they make their permanent residence. Exceptions to this rule may be
considered for athletes who attend school in BC but outside of their zone and where
it is not feasible for them to return to their zone because of distance, to compete in
the zone qualification event(s) for their zone. For example: a player attending private school in Victoria, but parents actually lives in Fort St John.

Please bring a copy of your parent or guardians’ property assessment, phone or hydro bill.

MEMBERSHIP
All participants of Badminton BC sanctioned events must be current members in good standing (valid from June 1 through May 31, annually).
Please purchase or renew membership your Recreational $7.00 membership prior to registering for the Trials.

EVENTS
Each participant may enter a maximum of 1 event-Boys (BS) or Girls Singles (GS), only in their Zone..

SCHEDULE
Start times for each Zone to be communicated to players

EYEWEAR
All players in BC are highly recommended to wear protective eyewear meeting the ASTM F803 standard whenever there are more than two players on the same court, at all Badminton BC circuit events, Provincial Championships, and sanctioned events. Badminton BC also recommends that goggles must be worn over top of prescription glasses.

FORMAT and SCORING
Singles with a round robin format (each group-BS & GS-will play each other once). There will be
2 games to 21 with no setting. 4 pts for winning both games; 2 pts if each player wins a game; 1 pt. for no wins.
In the case of a tie, the following tie break criteria will be used:
-1st-head to head result
-2nd-game difference
-3rd-relative point difference
If this does not break the tie then 1 game to 21 no setting will be used to determine an outcome.

RULES
The rules of Badminton BC and those of Badminton Canada are in effect – 10 minute default
rule applies and 3 minute warm up period.

UNIFORMS
Generally, coloured clothing is permitted. Exception: private clubs may have additional requirements i.e. all whites. Players will be held in accordance with Badminton Canada’s Competition Uniform Policy also adopted by Badminton BC.

Officials reserve the right to ask competitors to change inappropriate clothing. Shorts that extend below the knee are deemed inappropriate clothing. Final decision will be made by the Tournament Referee.

WITHDRAWALS AND REFUNDS
1. Withdrawal before the registration deadline will receive a full refund
2. Withdrawal after the deadline but before the draws are done will receive a refund less a $15+gst service charge
3. Withdrawal due to a medical issue will receive a full refund provided a signed physician note is received by Badminton BC staff in 1 day in advance of the first day of the competition
4. Withdrawal from an event due to a partner medical illness will receive a refund for that event provided they are not reassigned/or request another partner already registered for the tournament
5. All refunds will be performed after the event has finished

MEMBERSHIP
At the time of registration, all participants must be current members in good standing with Badminton BC (valid from June 1 through May 31 of each year) for the 2019-2020 season. To avoid disappointment do not leave your registration to the last moment in the event you need assistance with membership renewal or tournament registration.

PLAYERS
1. Players must advise the draw desk within 5 minutes of the end of their first match loss if they do not wish to play consolations.
2. Players are required to be ready to play at least 10 minutes before their scheduled match
3. Players are recommended to be at the tournament venue at least 30 minutes before their scheduled match. No additional warm up time will be allotted for players arriving late

Please be advised: In response to concerns raised by numerous players, coaches and parents over the past several seasons, Badminton BC has implemented a “No Show” fee starting with the 2018-2019 season. Essentially, any player who does not show up for a scheduled match time without informing the HOC (at least 1 hour prior to the scheduled match) will be fined $40 dollars. This policy is an effort to reinforce the values of courtesy, responsible behaviour, respect and sportsmanship as set out in the BBC Athlete Code of Conduct – a no show would be considered an infraction of this shared Code. Thank you in advance for your cooperation, communication and responsible participation.
