Season’s Greetings from Badminton BC!

As the year draws to a close, Badminton BC would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to our athletes, volunteers, officials, coaches, and partners who have helped make this such a successful year. Your passion, dedication, and community spirit continue to shape our organization and the sport we all love.

This season is a time for reflection, gratitude, and connection. Whether you’re celebrating cherished traditions, enjoying a well-earned rest, or spending time with family and friends, we hope you find joy, peace, and renewed energy for the year ahead.

Looking ahead to 2026, Badminton BC is excited about the opportunities before us—new programs, events, and continued growth within our community. Together, we’ll build on our shared successes and create even more memorable experiences both on and off the court. Thank you for being part of this journey.

Office Closure Notice:
The Badminton BC office will close at 12:00 PM on December 24, 2025, and will reopen on Monday, January 5, 2026.

BOARD UPDATE!

The Board of Directors would like to share a few important updates with our community.

Peter Kho has stepped down from the Board and has relinquished his role as Vice-President. We extend our sincere and heartfelt thanks to Peter for his dedication and service over the past 11 months. During a period of significant transition for the organization, Peter generously contributed his time, expertise, and leadership, making a meaningful and lasting impact on Badminton BC.

At the December 17, 2025 Board meeting, Michael Diao was elected as Vice-President. The Board is also pleased to share that, effective January 1, 2026, Denise Jefferys will step into the role of Secretary, and Lisa Davison will take on the position of Director at Large.

We look forward to the leadership, energy, and experience they will bring to their new roles as we move into 2026.

The Strategic Plan Survey is open until December 23, 2025, so there’s still time to share your thoughts. The Board will use member feedback during its next planning and discussion session in January/February 2026.

2025-26 BC Indigenous Badminton Development Camp

I∙SPARC is pleased to present its BC Indigenous Badminton Athlete Development Camp! This camp is in partnership with Gitanmaax Band and Badminton BCThis 1-day event is being held December 13, 2025 at the beautiful Upper Skeena Recreation Centre in Hazelton, BC.  For full camp info and to register, please visit: https://isparcbc.wufoo.com/.../202526-bc-indigenous.../
Indigenous youth (First Nations, Métis, Inuit), ages 10-18 are invited to participate.

Maintenance Alert!

We would like to inform our community that scheduled maintenance will take place on Tournament Software, affecting our website and online tournament entry beginning Monday, November 24 at 11:00 PM and concluding by Tuesday, November 25 at 4:00 AM (PST).

During this maintenance period, access to our website and online registration systems may be temporarily unavailable. Normal service is expected to resume immediately following the completion of maintenance.

ANNOUNCING GENERAL OPERATIONS MANAGER!

On behalf of the Board of Directors, I am very pleased to announce the appointment of James Holloway as the new General Operations Manager (GOM) of Badminton BC, effective Monday, November 3, 2025.

James brings over a decade of diverse experience in sport administration, event planning, education, and program development. He has held leadership roles in post-secondary institutions, multi-sport club, and international schools, where he successfully managed athletic operations, program delivery, and staff development. Throughout his career, James has demonstrated a strong commitment to strategic planning, athlete and program growth, and collaborative stakeholder engagement. His proven ability to build partnerships and strengthen organizational capacity will be an asset to our association as we continue to advance badminton in British Columbia.

This appointment follows a rigorous and transparent selection process. An independent recruiter was engaged to collect and review all applications, conduct preliminary interviews, and recommend a shortlist of qualified candidates. The Hiring Committee, consisting of Board members with expertise in management and human resources, then conducted second interviews and recommended James for the position, which was subsequently approved by the Board of Directors.

National Circuit Town Hall

Badminton BC has coordinated with Badminton Canada a Town Hall meeting to present the national circuit, competition schedule, competitions regulations changes, Junior National Team Selection and coaching licenses.  There will be an opportunity for a Q&A session.  Parents, athletes, officials and coaches are invited!

Victor Lai Makes History for Canadian Badminton!

This week President Andy Zhu had the privilege of meeting Victor Lai, who has just returned from Paris after making history at the 2025 World Championships. His remarkable performance on the world stage is a proud moment for Canadian badminton and an inspiration for all of us.

For our junior players especially — Victor’s journey is a reminder that with hard work, resilience, and belief in yourself, Canadians can and do succeed at the very highest levels of our sport.

On behalf of Badminton BC, we extend our congratulations to Victor and look forward to cheering him on as he continues to inspire the next generation of athletes.

 

 

7-DAY OFFICIAL NOTICE 2025 ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

August 29 2025 - 7-DAY NOTICE is hereby given to all members of Badminton BC. The 2025 Annual General Meeting will be held Friday, September 5, 2024 at 7:00 PM Pacific Time both in-person at Vancouver Racquets Club, 4867 Ontario Street, Vancouver, BC V5V 3H4 and online. Thank you to all that have registered so far.



Registration for the AGM has been EXTENDED and will re-open at 11:59 PM Friday, August 29 2025!

Registration will close 11:59 PM Sunday, August 31 2025.
